Build My Life CCLI Song # 7070345

Verse 1

Worthy of ev’ry song we could ever sing

Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring

Worthy of ev’ry breath we could ever breathe

We live for You

Verse 2

Jesus the name above ev’ry other name

Jesus the only one who could ever save

Worthy of ev’ry breath we could ever breathe

We live for You

We live for You

Chorus

Holy there is no one like You

There is none beside You

Open up my eyes in wonder and show me who You are

And fill me with Your heart

And lead me in Your love to those around me

Bridge

I will build my life upon Your love

It is a firm foundation

I will put my trust in You alone

And I will not be shaken

Passage (Slides)  Exodus 12:50-13:8, Renee

All the people of Israel did just as the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron. And on that very day the Lord brought the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.

The Lord said to Moses, “Consecrate to me all the firstborn. Whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and of beast, is mine.”

Then Moses said to the people, “Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery, for by a strong hand the Lord brought you out from this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten.

Today, in the month of Abib, you are going out. And when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you shall keep this service in this month.

Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the Lord. Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days; no leavened bread shall be seen with you, and no leaven shall be seen with you in all your territory.

You shall tell your son on that day, ‘It is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’

Join me in the prayer of Jesus,

Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed be your name.

Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

Forgive us our trespasses, while we forgive those who trespass against us.

And, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen

Who You Say I Am  # 7102401

Verse 1

Who am I that the highest King

Would welcome me

I was lost but He brought me in

Oh His love for me

Oh His love for me

Chorus 1

Who the Son sets free

Oh is free indeed

I’m a child of God

Yes I am

Verse 2

Free at last

He has ransomed me

His grace runs deep

While I was a slave to sin

Jesus died for me

Yes He died for me

Chorus 2

In my Father’s house

There’s a place for me

I’m a child of God

Yes I am

Bridge

I am chosen not forsaken

I am who You say I am

You are for me not against me

I am who You say I am

Tag

(Oh) (Yes) I am who You say I am

[Slide] Introduction IllustrationPatrick Hutchinson

  • On June 13, 2020, 50-year-old father and grandfather of three, Patrick Hutchinson, along with four friends specifically went to George Floyd protest in Trafalgar Square in central London “just in case”.
  • Hutchinson – “everyone asks if rescued man ever said ‘Thanks’”
  • Why do we expect thanks but often times forget to show thanks?
  • What does thanks do in regard to the actions that preciptated it?

Pass-over/Exodus Story

Basics of story

  • “For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you.” (Exodus 12:23)

Questions about story

  • For every victory for Isrealites, the other side suffers.
  • Egyptian civilians had seen God’s power in very public display of plagues but still, along with Pharaoh, continued to reject God.
  • The Lord had given the Hebrews favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked for. It seems as though God had manipulated Pharaoh throughout their engagement. Was this to show the Egyptians the fickleness of human nature, that their leader was a failed human being? That the Egyptian God were false?
  • First Born. Isaac, Esau/Jacob, Ruben…then, in Egypt at time of Exodus we see the weight of the first born from all families – greater inheritance but also a much greater weight of responsibility. God delivers the first born from the wave of death. Jesus is the first born of humanity. We, through Jesus, THE first born, are delivered.

Response/Motivation/Life Purpose

  • Lives were saved before any personal commitments made other than painting the doorposts.
  • Lives lived were to be an act of gratitude, lived out in gratitude for undeserved gift of life given, commitment called for later, following golden calf and gift of the law.
  • Yearly Act of remembrance led by first born who were protected from death, personal in homes among loved ones, personal testimony and continued remembering of Pass-Over. This act of remembrance was personal, observed (still today) in their homes in the midst of their most raw and vulnerable relationships. They were instructed to observe this even before they had actually experienced their deliverance.

[Slide – leave up til next slide] Response

  • God saved the first born therefore the first born owe their life to God.
  • God saved you, and me, therefore we owe our life to God.
  • Our response is to remember this grace and live out our response to the world.

[Slide – leave up til next slide] Life Lived Out Witness/Experiential Story Teller

Theologian Nancy Guthrie, on raising and reminding children

  • Live as a grateful repentant sinner before our world rather than verbal models of perfection.
  • Pray for the world’s spiritual life rather than getting frustrated with or trying to micromanage the world’s morality.
  • This is also a call to the church in the presence of our world. Parent’s love, God’s love, is motivator of our response.
  • Live in a grateful state for God’s grace on you before the world instead of being a micromanager of the world.

[Slide – until music] Motivation for Life – Life was delivered by God. Not because anyone promised to faithfully serve but because God loved them. When we truly live out our lives in a response of gratitude for our deliverance that took place while we were still sinners, we will remember and the world will see truth in our lives. Life fulfilled is life lived with that grateful response.

Lord I Need You  # 5925687

Verse 1

Lord I come I confess

Bowing here I find my rest

And without You I fall apart

You’re the one that guides my heart

Chorus 1

Lord I need You oh I need You

Ev’ry hour I need You

My one defense my righteousness

Oh God how I need You

Verse 2

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more

Where grace is found is where You are

And where You are Lord I am free

Holiness is Christ in me

Where You are Lord I am free

Holiness is Christ in me

Bridge

So teach my song to rise to You

When temptation comes my way

And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You

Jesus You’re my hope and stay

And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You

Jesus You’re my hope and stay

Chorus 2

Lord I need You oh I need You

Ev’ry hour I need You

My one defense my righteousness

Oh God how I need You

My one defense my righteousness

Oh God how I need You
