What will you do with this day?
Did you know the first U.S. Mardi Gras celebration took place in 1703 in what is now Mobile, Alabama? It was an overflowing feast purposely planned so all the meats and perishable goods that would spoil over the next 40 days of Lent would be eaten before they could spoil. Lent, 40 days of fasting, prayer, and sacrifice, begins tomorrow. Over the years since, today has adopted the moniker ‘Pancake Day’ which is self explanatory, and, ’Fat Tuesday’ marked by indulgence, wild debauchery, parades, and… beads. Originally though, this was Shrove Tuesday, the day the faithful would confess their sins and prepare for Ash Wednesday.
What is your best use of today? Possibly, consider what you can give up, or do, to help the 2021 Lent season be more impactful in the faith of your life.
